Prosper Narteh Ogum believes the Black Starlets are fully prepared both mentally and physically ahead of their opening fixture at the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Ghana begin their campaign on Thursday with a difficult clash against Algeria as the former African champions make their return to the continental tournament with hopes of securing a place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar later this year.
The Black Starlets head into the competition after an impressive showing during the WAFU B qualifiers, where they reached the final before narrowly losing to Côte d’Ivoire in a penalty shootout.
Speaking to CAFOnline.com before the start of the tournament, Dr Ogum praised the commitment and mentality shown by his players throughout their preparations.
“The mood in camp is very positive and focused. The players understand the importance of representing Ghana at this level and they have shown great commitment throughout our preparations,” he said.
“We have worked very hard physically, tactically and mentally, and I believe the team is ready to compete. The boys are motivated and eager to make Ghana proud in our opening game against Algeria.”
Ghana have been placed in a difficult Group D alongside defending champions Senegal, South Africa and Algeria, but the Black Starlets coach remains optimistic about his side’s chances.
According to Ogum, the current squad possesses the quality, discipline and mentality required to compete with the continent’s strongest teams while aiming to build their own legacy in Ghana’s celebrated youth football history.
