Owner and chairman of Sunderland AFC, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, has reaffirmed the English club’s commitment to deepening its relationship with Ghana following a high-profile visit to Parliament House in Accra.
Louis-Dreyfus led a delegation from the Premier League side on a courtesy call to Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Bagbin, as discussions continue around cooperation linked to the annual Democracy Cup initiative.
Speaking during the engagement, the Sunderland owner highlighted the club’s historical connection with Ghana through several iconic players who represented the Black Cats during their careers.
“We have had different connections with Ghana over the years and we believe this is an opportunity to further strengthen the relationship for the benefit of both sides,” Louis-Dreyfus stated.
The Sunderland chairman paid tribute to former Ghana internationals Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari and John Mensah, whose contributions helped strengthen the bond between the club and Ghanaian football supporters.
The visit follows Speaker Bagbin’s recent trip to Sunderland’s headquarters in the United Kingdom, where discussions were held on ways to build stronger sporting and cultural ties.
Sunderland officials believe the growing relationship could open new opportunities for collaboration while further enhancing the club’s presence in Ghana.
The meeting marks another step in what both parties hope will become a long-term partnership between Sunderland AFC and Ghana.
