Kurt Okraku Hails Carlos Queiroz’s Leadership Ahead of Ghana’s World Cup Campaign

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has praised Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, describing the experienced Portuguese tactician as a strong leader whose presence is already having a positive impact on the national team.

Queiroz was appointed in April to lead Ghana into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, replacing Otto Addo on a short-term deal ahead of the tournament in North America.

Although the 73-year-old has overseen only one match since taking charge, a 1-1 draw against Wales in an international friendly, Okraku believes the veteran coach has already demonstrated the qualities that made him one of the most respected managers in world football.

Speaking to GFA Media, the football administrator highlighted Queiroz’s vast experience and commanding personality.

“He is a man of his word with over 40 years of experience at the highest level of football, both at club and international level,” Okraku said.

The GFA President added that Queiroz’s authority and firm convictions have earned him immediate respect within the Black Stars setup.

“When we say somebody has seen it all, he really fits that bill. I like the fact that when he walks into the dressing room, he commands natural respect,” he stated.

Queiroz has previously managed several national teams, including Egypt, Iran and Colombia, while also serving as an assistant coach at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Black Stars are currently in the United States putting the finishing touches on their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

The four-time African champions will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27 as they aim to make a strong impression on football’s biggest stage.
