The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that it will hear the appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) over the outcome of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final on October 8, 2026, in Lausanne, Switzerland.
In a media release issued on July 24, CAS stated that the case concerns Senegal’s appeal against CAF’s decision to declare that the Teranga Lions forfeited the AFCON 2025 final, with Morocco subsequently recorded as 3-0 winners and crowned African champions.
The release noted that the appeal, which was registered on March 25, 2026, seeks to overturn CAF’s ruling. “The appeal requests that CAS declare the FSF winners of AFCON 2025,” the statement read.
CAS also explained that the case will follow its normal procedural timeline after both parties declined to fast-track the proceedings. “The Parties did not agree to expedite this procedure, which is therefore following a standard timeline according to CAS procedural rules,” the statement added. It further confirmed that the hearing will take place behind closed doors after neither side requested a public hearing.
While the hearing date has now been fixed, CAS stressed that no verdict will be delivered on the same day. “After the hearing, the Panel will start its deliberations. At this stage, CAS cannot state when a final decision will be rendered but it will not be on the day of the hearing,” the release concluded. The outcome of the case could determine whether Morocco retain the AFCON 2025 title or whether Senegal’s appeal is upheld.
