Charles Taylor believes Ghana should have left their FIFA World Cup clash against England with all three points, insisting the Black Stars were denied a clear penalty during the goalless draw.
Ghana produced one of their most impressive performances of the tournament at Gillette Stadium, frustrating the Three Lions and moving to four points in Group L.
Reflecting on the encounter, Taylor argued that a key refereeing decision went against the Black Stars and could have changed the outcome of the match.
“We were denied a clear penalty because Konsa never touched the ball but rather touched the player, so it should have been awarded,” Taylor said on Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV.
The incident involving England defender Ezri Konsa and Ghana forward Prince Kwabena Adu has been a major talking point since the final whistle, with head coach Carlos Queiroz also questioning why VAR failed to intervene.
Despite his frustration over the decision, Taylor praised the Black Stars for their overall display, noting the significant improvement from the opening victory over Panama.
The former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko star believes Ghana played with greater confidence and showed signs of progress against one of the tournament favourites.
Taylor also pointed to a late chance that fell to Prince Kwabena Adu, suggesting the striker could have reacted quicker in front of goal.
Nevertheless, he was encouraged by the team’s performance and believes the Black Stars are heading in the right direction as they prepare for their decisive final group match against Croatia.
With four points from two games and qualification still within reach, Ghana know another positive result could secure a place in the knockout stages for the first time since 2010.
