Laryea Kingston guides Starlets to emphatic win in major tournament in his coaching career

Laryea Kingston led Ghana Black Starlets an all round masterclass performance after they trashed Ivory Coast 5-1 in the opening match of the 2024 WAFU Zone B Under-17 Championship played at the University of Ghana Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Former Black Stars winger, Laryea Kingston coached the victorious youngsters, demonstrating promise in his first substantial assignment.

Kingston’s tactical prowess was on full display as the Black Starlets showed high pressure, resulting in a brace from Joseph Narbi along with strikes from Godfred Sarpong, Harve Gbafa, and Mark Kagawa Mensah.

Despite early chances created by the Ivorians, Ghana proceeded to dominate and control the match until the final whistle.

Again, Ghana dominated the first half after Narbi’s scored brace, extending the advantage shortly after the interval through Sarpong’s effort.

The Ivorians had consolation goal but couldn’t hold on to it as Gbafa responded immediately, followed later by Mensah’s goal which sealed the game for Ghana.

Following this big victory, Ghana take a commanding stance in Group A, nearing semifinal qualification ahead of their concluding fixture against Benin.

Ivory Coast on the other side faces elimination unless they are able to beat Benin in their next game in this tournament.
