Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, has emphasize the significance of the upcoming inaugural Democracy Cup in fostering a stronger connection between Ghana’s Parliament and its citizens.
The event, scheduled for July 5, will feature a football match between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak, with the winning team earning a chance to play against American club DC United in Washington later this year.
The announcement, made at the launch of the Cup, adds an exciting international dimension to the event, which is being held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
In addition to the main match, the Democracy Cup will include a curtain-raiser game between a team of selected Members of Parliament and a side of former Black Stars players. This unique face-off is expected to further enhance the spirit of unity and camaraderie.
“I think it is an important thing because it is a way of creating a bridge between the public and Parliament by using sports as a unifying factor. We all know how powerful sports is as a unifying factor and this something that is supposed to celebrate the 30 years of uninterrupted Parliamentary democracy which we hope will go forward not only in Ghana but in the subregion and across the continent” Zanetor Rawlings said.
