Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku has encouraged Samartex 1996 to take inspiration from the achievements of Medeama SC and Dreams FC as they prepare for their debut in the CAF Champions League.
Samartex will face Victoria United FC in their preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, and Okraku’s visit was aimed at motivating the players and staff to strive for excellence on the continental stage.
The president paid a visit to Samartex’s training session on Tuesday, Okraku and highlighted how pivotal it is to emulate what Medeama did last season in the CAF Champions League reaching the group stages of the tpurnament in their first time.
Mr Okraku showed his confidence in Samartex’s ability to represent Ghana with pride and to make an impact in Africa’s premier club competition.
“Your colleagues have done it just a few months ago. It’s your turn to go the extra mile to put Ghana back on the map as far as the Confederation of African Football Inter-club competitions go,” he said.
“I have no doubt that there’s quality in this team. You are true champions and worthy representatives of our country in Africa. You won the Ghana Premier League on merit. I have absolute trust in the technical team to guide all of you in this adventure.”
Samatex will travel to Cameroon for the first leg this weekend and then host the second leg at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday August 23.
