Ghana international Jonas Adjetey is expected to continue his development at VfL Wolfsburg under newly-appointed head coach Dieter Hecking for the remainder of the Bundesliga season.
The managerial switch follows the exit of Daniel Bauer, the manager who oversaw Adjetey’s arrival at the Volkswagen Arena during the winter transfer window. With Bauer no longer at the helm, the 22-year-old centre-back will now look to establish himself under the guidance of Hecking, a vastly experienced coach previously in charge of Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Adjetey joined Wolfsburg after leaving Swiss side FC Basel, completing a move that attracted attention as he stepped up to one of Europe’s most competitive leagues. His early adaptation to the Bundesliga has been closely monitored, with some observers questioning how quickly he can settle into the demands of the German top flight.
Before his departure, Bauer publicly backed the young defender and emphasised that the club’s priority was to gradually integrate him into the squad.
“Jonas comes from a smaller league. He is a very exciting player, but naturally there are still some areas he must improve,” Bauer told Kicker. “Especially in our current situation, the focus is on developing him and integrating him into the team through training.”
So far, Adjetey has made four appearances for Wolfsburg during the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign as he continues to adapt to life in Germany.
Beyond club football, the defender also remains part of Ghana national football team plans on the international stage. With seven senior caps already to his name, the youngster could be among the players in contention for selection ahead of the upcoming global tournament in June.
Having secured his move to the Bundesliga and with the international spotlight approaching, Adjetey will be eager to impress under Hecking and strengthen his case for a place in Ghana’s squad.
