Tanko Calls for Player Meeting Following Medeama’s Surprise Loss to Hohoe United

Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko says he will hold discussions with his players after their surprising 2-1 loss to newly promoted Hohoe United in the Ghana Premier League.

The Defending Champions were beaten at the TNA Stadium in a result that extended their difficult run of form to five matches without a win in the league.

Despite playing with a numerical advantage for a large part of the game, Medeama were unable to make it count. The hosts endured a frustrating afternoon as goalkeeper Felix Kyei struck the post from the penalty spot, while an unfortunate own goal further complicated matters for the defending champions.

Hohoe United capitalised on Medeama’s mistakes to secure a memorable victory on the road.

Even with the defeat, Medeama remain at the summit of the Ghana Premier League table. Their lead stayed intact after second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars were also beaten by Young Apostles in the same round, leaving Tanko’s side one point clear at the top.

Reflecting on the game, Tanko admitted the match was filled with unusual moments that made it difficult for his team to secure a positive result.

“I have been in this game for a long time and this kind of day happens sometimes because it’s not normal that you miss a penalty, you give away a goal and another own goal. Definitely it’s difficult for you to win,” Tanko told the club’s media team.

With nine matches remaining in the league season, the Medeama coach believes it is important for the team to regroup and reassess their approach.

“We still have nine games to play. I think I have to meet with the players and then see the way forward,” he added.
