Kotoko Face Samartex in High-Stakes Kumasi Showdown

Asante Kotoko will take on FC Samartex at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Monday in the final fixture of Matchday 28, with both sides chasing crucial points as the season reaches a decisive stage.

Kotoko head into the clash under pressure, knowing that only a victory will be enough to reclaim third place and keep their slim title hopes alive. The Porcupine Warriors currently sit eight points off the top and can ill afford any further slip-ups.

They come into the game on the back of a draw against Aduana FC, extending their unbeaten run to two matches. However, inconsistency remains a concern, with a mixed record of results in recent outings.

Samartex, on the other hand, are aiming to secure a top-half finish and will see this encounter as an opportunity to boost their position. They sit seventh on 38 points, just five behind Kotoko, but arrive in Kumasi on a poor run of form.

The visitors are winless in their last eight matches and suffered defeat to Bechem United in their previous game. Defensive issues have also plagued their away performances, conceding in each of their last four matches on the road.

Recent meetings between the two sides suggest a tightly contested affair. Since March 2023, Kotoko have the upper hand with three wins, while Samartex have managed one victory, with two games ending in draws. Their most recent encounter in November 2025 ended goalless.

With Kotoko pushing to stay in the title race and Samartex desperate to end their winless streak, Monday’s clash in Kumasi promises to be a tense and competitive showdown.
