CAF has reached a consensus to support Gianni Infantino’s potential third-term bid as FIFA president

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has thrown its full support behind Infantino should he seek re-election for the 2027–2031 term. The decision was taken in Vancouver, Canada, on Wednesday, 29 April 2026, when CAF met on the eve of the 76th FIFA Congress.

According to an official communiqué, all CAF member associations agreed to back the move, signaling a united front from the African football body.

With this development, CAF becomes the second confederation to endorse Infantino, following South America’s governing body, CONMEBOL, which publicly declared its support a fortnight ago.

Although Infantino has not yet officially announced his intention to run, reports indicate that the 56-year-old Swiss administrator is preparing to seek re-election. A former UEFA General Secretary, he was first elected FIFA president in 2016 and has since overseen significant changes within global football, including competition reforms and the expansion of major tournaments.
