Nations FC will aim to create distance from the relegation zone when they host Accra Hearts of Oak at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Sunday in the Ghana Premier League.
Despite their impressive run to the FA Cup final, Nations remain in a precarious league position, sitting just three points above the drop zone with five matches remaining. Back-to-back wins over Aduana FC and Basake Holy Stars have provided a timely boost, and they will be eager to build on that momentum.
Hearts of Oak, meanwhile, arrive with ambitions at the other end of the table. The Phobians sit third with 46 points but saw their title push dented after a defeat to Vision FC. They now trail the leaders by seven points and must remain consistent to keep their hopes alive.
Head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani is cautious ahead of the clash, noting the physical and direct threat posed by Nations. He recalled the difficulty of the reverse fixture, which Hearts narrowly won 1-0.
Recent meetings between the two sides underline how tight this contest could be. Since December 2023, Hearts have recorded two wins, Nations one, with two draws. The latest encounter ended in a slim victory for Hearts.
Statistically, Nations have struggled for consistency (W10 D8 L11), scoring and conceding 28 goals. In contrast, Hearts boast one of the league’s best defensive records, conceding just 12 goals while scoring 20 (W11 D13 L5).
With Nations fighting for survival and Hearts chasing the title, Sunday’s clash promises to be a tense and competitive showdown in Kumasi.
