Prosper Narteh Ogum Backs Black Starlets to Shine at 2026 U-17 AFCON

Prosper Narteh Ogum says the Black Starlets are fully prepared ahead of the 2026 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations set to be hosted in Morocco.

The Ghana U-17 side will open their campaign with a tough encounter against Algeria on Thursday, May 14, as they make their long-awaited return to the continental competition after a nine-year absence.

The Black Starlets are hoping to secure qualification to the FIFA U-17 World Cup later this year and head into the tournament with renewed confidence under Dr Ogum, who has been in charge of the team since 2025.

Speaking to CAF Online before the start of the tournament, the former Asante Kotoko coach said the atmosphere within camp has been encouraging and the players are fully aware of the responsibility of representing Ghana on the continental stage.

“The mood in camp is very positive and focused,” Ogum said. “The players understand the importance of representing Ghana at this level and they have shown great commitment throughout our preparations.”

He added that the technical team has worked extensively to ensure the players are ready in all departments ahead of the championship.

“We have worked very hard physically, tactically and mentally, and I believe the team is ready to compete. The boys are motivated and eager to make Ghana proud in our opening game against Algeria,” he stated.

Ghana have been placed in a difficult Group D where they will also come up against South Africa and defending champions Senegal in the race for a place in the next stage of the tournament.
