National Chief Imam Leads Special Prayer Session for Black Stars Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Leaders within Ghana football joined members of the Muslim community and national stakeholders on Friday, May 15, 2026, for a special Islamic prayer session in support of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The event took place at the National Mosque in Accra and brought together football administrators, religious leaders and supporters in a show of unity as Ghana prepares for its fifth appearance at the global tournament.

The prayers were led by Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, who offered prayers for guidance, protection and success for the Black Stars as preparations continue for the competition in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The gathering also focused on unity within the national team setup as Ghana gears up for another World Cup campaign.

Speaking during the event, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association, thanked the National Chief Imam and the Muslim community for their continued prayers and support for Ghana football.

“As we prepare for the FIFA World Cup, it is important that we seek Allah’s guidance, protection and blessings for the Black Stars and the entire nation,” he said.

The GFA President attended the prayer session alongside several football officials and administrators, including Executive Council member Samuel Aboabire, Black Stars Management Committee member Moses Armah, Dreams FC President Jiji Alifoe Mohammed and other key figures within Ghana football.

The event forms part of nationwide spiritual and motivational activities being organised ahead of the World Cup as excitement continues to build across the country.

Ghana will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto before taking on England in Boston on June 23. The Black Stars will then conclude the group stage against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
