“I can’t wait to give it all” — Ernest Nuamah targets World Cup dream after injury setback

Black Stars winger Ernest Nuamah says he is ready to embrace the biggest opportunity of his career after returning from a lengthy injury layoff ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Olympique Lyonnais star is part of Ghana’s provisional 28-man squad currently training in Cardiff as preparations intensify for the tournament in North America.

Nuamah’s inclusion marks a remarkable comeback after spending more than a year on the sidelines with an ACL injury that threatened to derail his progress at both club and international level.

Following a successful rehabilitation programme with Lyon, the 22-year-old has worked his way back to full fitness and is now hoping to secure a place in Ghana’s final 26-man World Cup squad.

Speaking from the Black Stars camp, Nuamah described the prospect of representing Ghana at the World Cup as a childhood dream coming to life.

“It has always been a dream to wear the national team jersey and going to the biggest stage of football, which is the World Cup. I can’t just wait to give it all. This has been my dream since I was a kid. And now this is the moment,” he said.

The winger has been training with the squad at Dragon Park since arriving in Cardiff on May 25 and is expected to feature in Ghana’s final warm-up match against Wales on June 2.

Ghana will finalise its World Cup squad before travelling to North America, where the Black Stars will face Panama, England and Croatia in Group L as they seek a return to the knockout stages of the competition.
