Ghana international Kwasi Sibo has revealed how former Real Oviedo head coach Guillermo Almada played a decisive role in convincing him to remain at the Spanish club after he had considered leaving in search of regular playing time.
The 28-year-old midfielder, who is currently a free agent following the expiration of his contract after Oviedo’s relegation, admitted that his representatives wanted him to secure a move elsewhere after he struggled for minutes despite making his senior debut for the Black Stars.
Speaking about the turning point in his Oviedo career, Sibo disclosed that Almada immediately addressed his concerns after taking charge of the club.
“When Coach Almada arrived, he called me into his office after our first training session. He asked why I wanted to leave because the sporting director had already informed him of the situation. He told me he wanted to use me and said that if my only concern was playing time, he would give me enough minutes and build the midfield around me. He kept his promise and gave me the opportunities I needed.”
Sibo went on to establish himself as an important figure in the team, making 27 appearances before his contract came to an end. Having also represented Ghana four times at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the midfielder is now searching for a new club as he looks to remain in Europe ahead of the Black Stars’ 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign, where Ghana will face Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia and Somalia.
