Medeama SC will aim to return to winning ways when they host Aduana FC in a crucial Matchday 8 encounter in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium on Sunday.
The two sides are separated by just one point, setting the stage for an intriguing contest as Medeama seek to protect their position at the top of the table, while Aduana hope to close the gap and strengthen their title ambitions.
Medeama head into the fixture following their first defeat of the campaign, a 2-1 loss to FC Samartex 1996 in Samreboi last weekend. The result ended their impressive winning run but has done little to undermine their strong start to the season.
The Tarkwa-based side remain top of the standings with 14 points from seven matches and have been the league’s most prolific attacking team, scoring 13 goals while conceding seven.
They will be eager to bounce back in front of their home supporters, especially considering their impressive record at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium. Medeama have won their last seven home league matches, making them a difficult opponent on their own turf.
Their recent home meetings with Aduana also favour the hosts. Medeama have recorded four victories, one draw and one defeat in their last six home league encounters with the Dormaa-based side since the 2020/21 season.
However, Aduana will arrive in Tarkwa determined to upset the league leaders and move closer to the top of the standings.
The Fire Club occupy fourth place with 13 points after winning four of their last five league matches and losing once. Their latest outing produced a narrow 1-0 victory over newly promoted FC Ashanti Gold’04, giving them further momentum ahead of Sunday’s showdown.
Aduana have been particularly impressive defensively, conceding only four goals in seven matches — the joint second-lowest tally in the league. They have scored seven goals so far and will need to make the most of their attacking opportunities against a Medeama side that has demonstrated considerable firepower.
Their away record suggests they could pose a serious challenge to the hosts. Aduana have won once, drawn once and suffered one defeat in their three away league matches, scoring twice and conceding just once.
With Medeama looking to recover from their first setback of the season and Aduana seeking to close the gap at the top, Sunday’s encounter promises to be a significant test for both sides.
A victory for Medeama would strengthen their grip on first place, while three points for Aduana could bring them level with the leaders and intensify the early-season title race.
