“We’re not going there to defend” – Koukouras sends attacking message ahead of Samartex derby

Bibiani GoldStars SC head coach Petros Koukouras says his players are determined to demonstrate that their recent improvement is genuine when they face FC Samartex 1996 in Sunday’s Ghana Premier League encounter.

The Miners travel to the Nsenkyire Sports Arena for the Matchday 9 regional derby looking to build on their 2-1 victory over Heart of Lions last weekend.

The result provided a timely boost for GoldStars, who have endured a difficult start to their title-defence campaign and currently sit 12th on the league table with 10 points from eight matches.

Koukouras believes the players are motivated to maintain their progress and show that their recent positive results have come through hard work rather than luck.

Speaking to GoldStars TV ahead of the fixture, the Greek coach said the squad was fully prepared for the challenge and eager to make a statement against their regional rivals.

He also dismissed suggestions that the derby would force his side to abandon their established playing philosophy, insisting that GoldStars would remain committed to attacking football.

Although he acknowledged the need for minor tactical adjustments because of the away fixture, Koukouras maintained that his team would not travel to Samreboi simply to defend.

The GoldStars coach wants his players to take the initiative, create scoring opportunities and compete for all three points.

GoldStars will face Samartex at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena on Sunday, November 1, with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 pm.
