“We are going there to fight for something” – Tanko confident ahead of Kotoko clash

Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has assured supporters that his side will go all out for a positive result when they take on Asante Kotoko in their Ghana Premier League Matchweek 9 fixture on Sunday.

The Mauve and Yellow travel to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi looking to maintain their position at the top of the league standings after an impressive start to the 2026/27 campaign.

Medeama have accumulated 17 points and won five of their last six matches, with their latest success coming through a 1-0 victory over Aduana FC.

Despite recognising the difficulty of facing Kotoko on their home ground, Tanko believes his team have what it takes to compete and secure a favourable outcome.

The Medeama coach also stressed that his side would remain committed to their style of play, regardless of whether they are playing at home or away.

“I think it’s always very good and exciting to play against them, especially in Kumasi. And yeah, like I said, last year was good for us, and we won a point there and then beat them 4-0 at home.

“So definitely, it’s at the back of their minds. So they are preparing very well to meet us. And, like I always say, we don’t change our style of play, whether at home or away. So definitely, we are going there to fight for something,” he said.

Medeama will approach Sunday’s encounter with confidence following their dominant 4-0 victory over Kotoko in their most recent meeting in April 2026.

Kotoko, however, will be determined to make home advantage count as they seek to recover from their 1-1 draw against FC Ashanti Gold ’04.

The Porcupine Warriors are currently eighth on the league table with 12 points from eight matches and will view the fixture as an opportunity to make up ground on the league leaders.

The Matchweek 9 encounter is scheduled to kick off at 15:00 GMT.
