Antoine Semenyo Reveals Family Joy After Choosing Ghana Over England

Antoine Semenyo has opened up on the emotional reaction from his family after deciding to represent the Ghana national football team instead of England.

The Manchester City forward disclosed that his father was especially overjoyed by the decision, describing the moment as unforgettable.

“My dad was so happy… everyone in my family was just happy that they support Ghana. I can’t even tell; it was crazy,” Semenyo said on the AllOutFootball Podcast.

Born in England, the 26-year-old explained that committing to Ghana was a straightforward choice, noting that he was not a priority in England’s setup, while Ghana showed strong belief in his abilities.

Semenyo made his debut for Ghana ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and has since grown into an important figure in the squad. His performances at club level have also been impressive, putting him in strong contention for a place in the team for the 2026 tournament in North America.

For the forward, the backing from his family reinforced his decision, as he continues to embrace his role with the Black Stars on the international stage.
