Eighteen-year-old winger Kyran Amankwa has revealed in an exclusive interview with Original FM that former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan played a major role in shaping his love for Ghana football.
The FK Pirmasens youngster, who was born in the United States to Ghanaian parents from Kumasi, told Original FM that watching Ghana during the 2010 FIFA World Cup created a special connection that has stayed with him throughout his childhood.
According to Amankwa, the atmosphere around the Black Stars during that period was unforgettable and made him admire Ghana’s football culture from a very young age.
“Asamoah Gyan and the group dances made me fall in love with Ghana and inspired me to want to play here after watching them during the 2010 World Cup,” he told Original FM.
“The vibe, the energy — everything about it was special to me. Also, I know playing for Ghana will make my parents proud, and I think that’s my biggest motivation.”
Speaking further to Original FM, the teenage winger explained that beyond football, Ghana has always been part of his identity because of his family background and upbringing.
He added that seeing Gyan’s famous celebrations and the togetherness within the team made him dream of one day representing Ghana himself.
Amankwa currently plays for German side FK Pirmasens and is regarded as one of the promising young Ghanaian talents developing abroad.
