Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has paid tribute to Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, describing the shot-stopper as one of the key figures behind the national team’s recent success.
The former Ghana captain believes Asare’s calmness, positioning and consistency have made him a vital presence between the posts, particularly during the country’s World Cup qualification campaign.
Speaking about the goalkeeper’s qualities, Gyan highlighted Asare’s ability to read the game and be in the right place at the right time.
“Benjamin Asare is very composed. Wherever he is, you can see the ball comes there,” Gyan said.
The experienced forward also credited the goalkeeper for producing crucial saves when Ghana needed them most on the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“He kept Ghana alive so many times in the qualifiers,” he added.
Asare’s rise has been one of the most remarkable stories in Ghanaian football. Having spent much of his career away from the spotlight, the goalkeeper has become an important figure for the Black Stars at a time when the national team was searching for stability in goal.
His performances earned him a place in Ghana’s World Cup squad, and he further enhanced his reputation after stepping in during the tournament following an injury to first-choice goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi.
The praise from Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading scorer and one of the country’s greatest footballers, is another indication of the growing respect Asare has earned within the national team setup.
