Former FCSB midfielder Baba Alhassan has disclosed that his eventual move to the Uganda national team came through an unexpected connection within the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The midfielder, who is currently without a club after becoming a free agent, said he has no regrets about representing Uganda, insisting he has been welcomed warmly since joining the Cranes.
According to Alhassan, the decision was not only influenced by his Ugandan heritage but also by the opportunity to finally play international football after years of waiting for a Black Stars invitation.
“I’m very happy with the Ugandan national team. Everything has been going well in terms of the treatment and support I’ve received, and that makes me very happy. My roots are from Uganda, so I’m not just playing for the sake of it.”
The former FCSB midfielder then revealed the surprising role the Ghana Football Association played in his international switch.
“One surprising thing, though, is that I got the connection to the Ugandan national team through someone at the Ghana Football Association.”
Alhassan enjoyed a productive spell with Romanian side FCSB, making 26 appearances, playing 1,107 minutes and providing two assists before becoming a free agent at the end of his stay.
