Black Queens confirm Nigeria friendly cancellation, Malawi game under consideration

The Ghana Women’s National Team has confirmed that the Black Queens’ scheduled international friendly against Nigeria’s Super Falcons has been called off as preparations continue for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The much-anticipated West African clash was expected to be played in Morocco as part of both teams final preparations for the continental showpiece. However, the Black Queens announced on their official social media handles that the fixture will no longer take place.

In a short update posted on the team’s official pages, the Ghana Women’s National Team wrote:

“The friendly match between Black Queens and Super Falcons has been called off. We continue to prep for WAFCON.”

The cancellation comes after Ghana’s recent pre-WAFCON friendly against Ivory Coast, which formed part of head coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s preparations as he continues to assess his squad ahead of the tournament.

Despite the cancellation, the Black Queens are expected to remain active in Morocco, with reports indicating that the Ghana Football Association is working to arrange another friendly, this time against Malawi, to ensure the team gets another competitive test before the tournament begins.

The Black Queens have been drawn in Group D of the 2026 WAFCON alongside Cameroon, Mali and Cape Verde.
