Black Starlets Set to Discover U-17 AFCON Opponents in Cairo Draw

Ghana U17 national team will find out their group stage opponents for the upcoming U-17 Africa Cup of Nations when the draw is held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in Cairo.

The ceremony will take place at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football, with proceedings scheduled to begin at 16:00 GMT.

The tournament, which doubles as a qualifier for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, marks Ghana’s return to the continental stage after an eight-year absence. The Black Starlets booked their spot in the competition after an impressive showing at the WAFU B Championship.

Set to be hosted in Morocco, the tournament presents a fresh opportunity for Ghana to reassert its strength at youth level. Historically, the Black Starlets have enjoyed success in the competition, lifting the title twice.

Under the guidance of head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, the team has been in camp since the beginning of the year, focusing on tactical discipline, fitness, and team cohesion ahead of the tournament.

Wednesday’s draw will shape Ghana’s route in the group stage, with only the top-performing teams advancing to the knockout phase. The Black Starlets will be hoping for a favourable grouping as they target a strong run and qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup later this year.
