New Ghana national football team head coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to arrive in Ghana this week for his official unveiling ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The veteran Portuguese tactician has agreed to a short-term four-month deal to lead the four-time African champions into the global tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Queiroz takes over from Otto Addo, who was dismissed following Ghana’s disappointing performances in the March international window, including defeats to Austria and Germany.
The Ghana Football Association is expected to organise a formal unveiling ceremony for the new coach, with key stakeholders and media in attendance. As part of official protocol, he will also be introduced to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams.
Once unveiled, Queiroz will immediately turn his attention to Ghana’s final preparations, beginning with friendly matches against Mexico national football team and Wales national football team.
Ghana will compete in Group L at the World Cup, opening their campaign against Panama national football team on June 17, before facing England national football team and Croatia national football team.
With extensive experience on the international stage, including previous roles with Portugal, Iran and Egypt, Queiroz is expected to bring structure and leadership to a team aiming to improve on recent World Cup performances.
