Daniel-Kofi Kyereh is reportedly set to leave SC Freiburg when the current season comes to an end, bringing an injury-disrupted spell in Germany to a close.
The Ghana international joined Freiburg from FC St. Pauli in 2022 after emerging as one of the standout attacking midfielders in Germany’s second division. His arrival at the Bundesliga side came with high expectations following a series of impressive displays at St. Pauli.
However, Kyereh’s progress was heavily affected after suffering a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury early into his time at Freiburg, a setback that kept him out of action for a lengthy period and prevented him from cementing a regular place in the senior team.
Much of the midfielder’s spell at the club has since revolved around rehabilitation and recovery rather than consistent appearances on the pitch.
Despite the challenges, Freiburg reportedly remained supportive throughout his recovery process, helping the Black Stars midfielder work his way back to full fitness.
In recent months, the 29-year-old returned to competitive action with Freiburg’s U23 side in the Regionalliga Südwest, where he showed promising signs as he gradually regained sharpness and match rhythm.
Although his performances during that period were encouraging, reports in Germany indicate there is little likelihood of a full return to Freiburg’s Bundesliga squad before the expiration of his current cycle with the club.
Both player and club are therefore expected to part ways at the end of the campaign, with Kyereh unlikely to feature again for Freiburg’s senior side as preparations are already underway for his departure.
The move would bring an unfortunate chapter to an end for the Ghanaian midfielder, who now faces an important stage in his career where regular playing time and stability will be crucial.
Despite his injury struggles at club level, Kyereh remains a valued member of the Ghana national football team setup, having earned 18 appearances for the Black Stars.
The midfielder is also believed to be targeting a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
With his Freiburg exit appearing increasingly likely, Kyereh is expected to attract attention from clubs across Europe searching for an experienced and creative midfield option.
