The Ghana Football Association has joined FIFA’s official launch meeting for the 2026 Women’s Football Commercial Strategy Programme, an initiative aimed at improving the commercial development of the women’s game across selected member associations.
The introductory session was held virtually and featured representatives from 12 football associations chosen to participate in this year’s programme.
Ghana stands as the only African country included in the initiative, with officials from the GFA’s Women’s Football Department, leadership and marketing units representing the association during the discussions.
The FIFA programme seeks to help federations build stronger and more sustainable commercial systems for women’s football through improved planning, sponsorship strategies and brand development.
During the meeting, participants explored several key areas, including commercial assessments, sponsorship proposals, implementation schedules and ways to increase the visibility and attractiveness of women’s football competitions.
As part of the programme, every participating association will work closely with a FIFA-appointed commercial consultant who will provide guidance throughout the different stages of the project.
The initiative will also feature workshops and collaborative learning sessions, allowing federations to exchange ideas and experiences on growing the women’s game commercially.
For the GFA, the programme is expected to play an important role in efforts to enhance the Women’s Premier League while creating improved commercial opportunities for clubs, players and stakeholders involved in women’s football in Ghana.
The project is scheduled to run between May and November 2026 and will be carried out in seven phases, ranging from initial assessments and strategy development to a final peer-review session involving all participating associations.
Ghana’s next activity under the programme will be a session with the assigned Commercial Technical Expert on May 20 before moving into the Situation Analysis phase on May 26.
