Ghana Secure Live Broadcast Rights for 2026 FIFA World Cup as Kofi Adams Confirms TV Coverage

Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, has confirmed that football fans in the country will be able to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup live after the government successfully secured television broadcast rights for the tournament.

The minister made the disclosure on Tuesday, May 12, during the presentation of a GH¢5 million contribution from GCB Bank towards the Black Stars’ World Cup fundraising campaign.

Speaking at the event, Adams revealed that the combination of government intervention and nationwide fundraising efforts made the acquisition of the broadcast rights possible.

“Through the support of government and fundraising efforts, we have been able to secure broadcast rights to telecast the World Cup matches live on some of the media stations,” he stated.

The minister explained that arrangements have already been concluded with selected broadcasting platforms to ensure supporters across Ghana can follow the tournament when it begins next year.

The donation from GCB Bank forms part of a larger national campaign aimed at generating financial support for the Black Stars as preparations continue for the global football festival, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Government recently introduced the fundraising initiative to encourage corporate bodies and stakeholders to contribute towards Ghana’s World Cup preparations.

Ghana will be making a fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and have been drawn into Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.

The Black Stars are scheduled to begin their campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17 before taking on England on June 23. Their final group-stage fixture will come against Croatia on June 27.

As part of preparations ahead of the tournament, Ghana will also engage in a series of international friendly matches. Otto Addo’s side will first face Mexico later this month before rounding off preparations against Wales on June 2.
