Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has challenged his teammates to be more ruthless in front of goal as Ghana prepare for their do-or-die Round of 32 clash against Colombia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars progressed to the knockout stage after finishing third in Group L with four points, following victories over Panama, a draw against England and a narrow defeat to Croatia.
With Colombia awaiting in Kansas City, Ayew believes Ghana must take their chances if they are to keep their World Cup dream alive.
Speaking after the defeat to Croatia, the experienced forward reminded his teammates that there is no room for mistakes in the knockout rounds.
“I have told the guys that we need to stay focused and do our best because the next game will be different—no second chance,” Ayew said.
The Black Stars captain acknowledged the challenge posed by an unbeaten Colombian side but expressed confidence that Ghana can rise to the occasion if they maintain their concentration and improve in the final third.
Saturday’s encounter will be the first-ever competitive meeting between Ghana and Colombia, with a place in the Round of 16 at stake.
Ghana will be hoping to reach the last 16 for the first time since their historic run to the quarter-finals at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, while Colombia will be aiming to continue their impressive unbeaten run in the tournament.
