Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has urged Ghanaians to remain patient with head coach Carlos Queiroz, insisting the national team needs more time to fully adapt to the Portuguese tactician’s methods following Ghana’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars campaign ended in the Round of 32 after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia, sparking debate over the team’s performances and tactical approach throughout the tournament.
Speaking in a post-match interview with SportyTV, Ayew defended the coaching staff, stressing that building a successful team is a gradual process.
“The new manager just came and people are adjusting to his style. The team can’t adjust between one or two months. Football doesn’t work like that and you have to accept it,” the Ghana captain said.
Queiroz was appointed only months before the World Cup and guided Ghana through a campaign that saw victories over Panama, a goalless draw against England, and qualification for the knockout stage before their elimination by Colombia.
Ayew believes expecting immediate transformation is unrealistic, noting that implementing a coach’s philosophy requires time, patience, and consistency.
The Former Leicester City forward also called for continued support from Ghanaians, insisting the current squad has the potential to improve as they spend more time working under Queiroz.
Attention will now shift to the upcoming international calendar, where the Black Stars will look to build on the foundations laid during the World Cup as preparations begin Afcon qualifiers in September.
