England manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Bukayo Saka is fit and available for selection against Ghana, while also raising concerns about the impact of hydration breaks on matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Saka returned to full training after managing an Achilles problem and is now in contention to feature in England’s crucial Group L clash.
However, Tuchel admitted that fierce competition for places means there is no guarantee the Arsenal winger will start despite being fully fit.
“Bukayo is getting better and better, feels no more pain and he is ready to go,” Tuchel said.
The England boss also reflected on the mandatory hydration breaks being used during the tournament, admitting they have disrupted the flow of matches more than he initially expected.
Tuchel believes the stoppages can interrupt momentum and alter the rhythm of games, although he accepts they are necessary given the conditions.
“I think it interrupts and changes the identity of the football match much more than I thought,” he explained.
England experienced one of those momentum shifts during their opening victory over Croatia, and Tuchel acknowledged that maintaining intensity has become a new challenge for teams at the tournament.
Despite his reservations, the former Chelsea manager accepted that the breaks ensure fairness for all competing nations.
England face Ghana on Tuesday in a match that could determine the direction of Group L, with both sides entering the contest after winning their opening fixtures.
