Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo has acknowledged the magnitude of Ghana’s upcoming World Cup clash against England, insisting the team remains focused and grounded despite opening their campaign with victory over Panama.
Ghana boosted their hopes of reaching the knockout stages with a dramatic 1-0 win over Panama, but attention has now shifted to what is expected to be one of the biggest matches in Group L.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Semenyo stressed the importance of maintaining concentration and not getting carried away by the opening result.
“It’s going to be a tough game. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. We want to win that game, but we know it is not going to be easy,” the Bournemouth attacker said.
England head into the fixture as one of the tournament favourites, but Ghana will take confidence from their resilient performance against Panama and the momentum gained from securing all three points.
Semenyo is expected to play a key role in Ghana’s attack as Carlos Queiroz’s side look to cause an upset against the European giants.
A positive result would significantly strengthen the Black Stars chances of progressing from a group that also includes Croatia.
