Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku has remained tight-lipped over whether he will seek another term when the association goes to the polls in 2027.
Okraku, who became GFA president in 2019 and secured an uncontested re-election in 2023, could potentially serve a third term following a 2025 amendment to the GFA statutes. The change, approved by 114 of 124 delegates, increased the presidential limit from two to three terms.
However, Okraku says he is not currently thinking about the next election. Asked by 3Sports if he intends to contest, he simply replied: “I don’t know.”
He added that there is still considerable time before the next elective congress and that his priority remains improving Ghanaian football during his current mandate.
“When the time comes, I will speak. When the time comes, the football family will speak,” Okraku said. “I can’t stay here forever and I do not intend to stay here forever. When the time is due, Kurt will fly away.”
The 2027 elections could also attract other high-profile candidates, with former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew reportedly linked with a potential bid for the GFA presidency.
