Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi has thrown his support behind Carlos Queiroz remaining as Ghana head coach, praising the Portuguese manager for bringing a renewed sense of unity and positivity to the national team.
Queiroz, who took charge of the Black Stars in April following the departure of Otto Addo, guided Ghana to the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite only having a few months to work with the squad.
Although speculation has surrounded his future after comments made on social media, the veteran coach later clarified that he had not resigned and remained committed to the role.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Ati Zigi admitted he was unaware of the details surrounding Queiroz’s contract but believes the former Real Madrid and Portugal coach has had a positive impact on the team.
“I don’t know about his contract situation, but I feel he is a great coach, and I love how he brought about the positivity in camp. If the leadership wants him to stay, it will be a good decision,” he said.
The goalkeeper featured during Ghana’s World Cup campaign, where the Black Stars defeated Panama, drew with England, lost narrowly to Croatia and advanced to the Round of 32 before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Colombia.
Despite the exit, the tournament marked Ghana’s first appearance in the knockout stage since the 2010 World Cup, with several players and officials praising the atmosphere created under Queiroz.
Attention has now shifted to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where Ghana will face Ivory Coast, Rwanda and Somalia in Group C as they seek a return to continental success.
