Hearts of Oak defender Kelvin Osei Asibey has opened up on the costly mistake he made in the club’s clash against rivals Asante Kotoko, insisting the error was unintentional and should be viewed as part of the realities of football.
The defender admitted on Sika FM that, the moment was painful but stressed that even the best players experience setbacks during their careers.
“In this world, you can do everything right and still fail. My mistake against Kotoko was part of football—it wasn’t intentional,” Asibey said.
Despite the criticism that followed the incident, the Hearts defender believes players should not be defined by a single mistake, emphasizing that football is a game where errors are inevitable.
Asibey also reflected on the responsibility that comes with representing one of Ghana’s biggest clubs, saying wearing the Hearts of Oak jersey requires courage, commitment and strong leadership.
“Playing for Hearts of Oak demands courage. Wearing the captain’s armband requires leading with a pure heart and giving everything for the badge,” he added.
The defender’s comments come as Hearts of Oak continue preparations for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, with the Phobians determined to bounce back after an underwhelming campaign.
Asibey is expected to remain a key figure in the squad as the club looks to rebuild and challenge for silverware in the upcoming season.
