Ghana’s Black Satellites have arrived in Côte d’Ivoire ahead of the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship, where they will be aiming to compete for regional honours despite already securing qualification for next year’s continental championship.
The team travelled after completing their final phase of preparations in Accra, signing off with a 2-1 victory over Semper Fi in a friendly match at the Accra Sports Stadium. The win provided the technical team with another opportunity to assess the squad before the start of the tournament.
The Black Satellites have been drawn in a challenging Group B alongside Nigeria, Togo and Burkina Faso, with every match expected to test the team’s credentials against some of West Africa’s strongest youth sides.
Although Ghana have already qualified automatically for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations as hosts, the WAFU tournament remains an important platform for the players to gain competitive experience and stake a claim for places in the squad that will represent the country next year.
With the regional title also at stake, the Black Satellites will be eager to make a strong statement in Côte d’Ivoire as they continue their preparations for the continental showpiece on home soil.
