Ghanaian-born Uganda international Baba Alhassan has completed a move to Turkish club Mardin 1969 Spor, signing a two-year contract after leaving Romanian giants FCSB as a free agent.
The 26-year-old midfielder, who recently switched his international allegiance from Ghana to Uganda, will remain with the Turkish second-tier side until June 2028 as he embarks on a new chapter in his European career.
Alhassan arrives at Mardin 1969 Spor after gaining valuable experience in Romania, where he featured for FC Hermannstadt before joining FCSB. During his spell with the Bucharest club, he competed in the Romanian SuperLiga and featured in European club qualifiers.
Before moving to Romania, the versatile midfielder also spent part of his development in Spain with Real Valladolid’s youth setup, laying the foundation for a career that has now taken him across three European countries.
Capable of operating as a defensive midfielder or a box-to-box player, Alhassan is expected to add quality and experience to Mardin 1969 Spor’s midfield as the club prepares for the new campaign.
The move also comes at a crucial stage in Alhassan’s international career. After recently switching his allegiance to Uganda, the midfielder will be hoping to be at his best form and maintain his place in Uganda’s squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Cranes will compete as one of the tournament’s co-hosts alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
