The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has welcomed the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to grant Category 2 approval to the TnA Stadium, describing it as another important milestone in Ghana’s efforts to improve football infrastructure.
In an official statement, the GFA said the approval followed a comprehensive inspection by CAF experts and reflected the collective efforts of the Football Association, Medeama Sporting Club, the stadium’s management and other stakeholders.
“The approval represents a significant achievement for Ghana football and reinforces the country’s continued commitment to improving football infrastructure in line with the latest CAF Stadium Regulations,” the GFA said.
The Association noted that the Category 2 certification allows the venue to host CAF youth and women’s national team qualifiers as well as preliminary-round matches in CAF interclub competitions, subject to final confirmation by CAF.
The GFA also acknowledged that CAF’s approval comes with conditions, including reducing the stadium’s approved seating capacity by removing seats with obstructed views and addressing a number of minor issues highlighted in the technical inspection report before the venue hosts another CAF fixture.
CAF will also appoint a Stadium Infrastructure Inspector to monitor a future match at the venue before making a final determination on the stadium’s eligibility to host additional CAF and FIFA competitions.
Despite the outstanding requirements, the Football Association remains optimistic and has pledged to work closely with Medeama SC and the stadium management to ensure full compliance.
“The Ghana Football Association welcomes CAF’s decision and views the approval as another important step in enhancing Ghana’s capacity to host international football matches,” the statement added.
The GFA further thanked CAF for its guidance throughout the inspection process and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring Ghana’s football facilities continue to meet the highest continental and international standards.
