Medeama SC to battle African giants TP Mazembe in CAF Champions League opener

Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC will begin their 2026/27 CAF Champions League campaign with a heavyweight first-round preliminary clash against Democratic Republic of Congo powerhouse TP Mazembe.

The Mauve and Yellow will host the first leg at the TnA Stadium between September 4 and 6, before travelling to Lubumbashi for the return leg at the Stade TP Mazembe between September 11 and 13.

The tie promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the preliminary round, with Ibrahim Tanko and his lads set to test themselves against one of Africa’s most decorated clubs as they chase a place in the next stage of the competition.

The reigning Ghana Premier League champions head into the continental campaign in high spirits after strengthening their squad with key additions, including Emmanuel Annor and Usman Safianu, while also embarking on an intensive three-week pre-season training camp in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire to prepare for the new season.

Medeama also received a major boost after CAF granted Category 2 approval to the TnA Stadium, clearing the venue to host the first leg of the Champions League encounter in Tarkwa.

The first leg will take place in Tarkwa before the two sides meet again in Lubumbashi, with a place in the next round of the CAF Champions League at stake.
