Asante Kotoko have completed the permanent signing of 22-year-old Moroccan goalkeeper Abdel Wadie Mourad.
The 1.93-metre shot-stopper has arrived in Ghana and signed a permanent contract with the Porcupine Warriors, contrary to reports that he was in the country on trial. Mourad joins Kotoko from Albanian side Basania FC.
The goalkeeper brings top-flight experience to Kumasi, having previously featured for Moroccan club Chabab Mohammedia in the Botola Pro League. During the 2024/25 season, he made 13 appearances and played 1,170 minutes.
Mourad, who is valued at approximately €130,000 and represented by Mir Sport, becomes the latest addition to Kotoko’s goalkeeping department as head coach Eric Tinkler continues to reshape his squad ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
His arrival adds further competition between the posts alongside Aziz Haruna Daari and the returning Danlad Ibrahim. The Porcupine Warriors have already seen Mohammed Camara depart for Ethiopian side Mechal, making the strengthening of the goalkeeping department an important part of their ongoing squad rebuild.
Mourad’s move also represents a significant opportunity for the young Moroccan to experience Ghanaian football and compete for a starting position at one of the country’s biggest clubs.
With the new Premier League season fast approaching, Kotoko are expected to remain active in the transfer market as they continue building a squad capable of mounting a stronger challenge in the upcoming campaign.
