Ghana’s Black Starlets assistant coach Hamza Mohammed says the team is determined to defeat Benin and secure a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship.
The two teams will clash in a crucial Group A encounter on Tuesday in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, with Ghana knowing that victory will guarantee their progression to the last four.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Hamza acknowledged the quality of the Benin side but stressed that Ghana’s priority was to secure qualification.
“We know Benin is a very good side and they are young just like us. We respect them but we are focused on securing qualification to the semi-finals so we just have to give our all for the game on Tuesday,” he said.
The Black Starlets head into the fixture with three points following their 1-0 victory over Togo in their opening match on Saturday. The result has given Ghana a positive start to their campaign as they target a place in the knockout stage.
However, Hamza insists the team must remain focused and deliver another disciplined performance against a Benin side equally determined to progress in the competition.
A victory would confirm Ghana’s place in the semi-finals and keep their hopes of a successful campaign, including qualification for the continental finals, firmly on track.
